Alert: Congressional Outreach for Administrative Cost Allowance

April 9, 2020 · by mlivolsi · Spark Notes, Uncategorized

COHEAO has been fighting to restore the Perkins Loan servicing Administrative Cost Allowance (ACA) since 2018. Our organization was successful in getting provisions included in both the Fiscal Year 2019 and 2020 annual appropriations bills giving the Department of Education (ED) the authority to cover the expenses schools incur by servicing their existing Perkins Loan portfolio, which used to be covered by the ACA.

Unfortunately, over the last year and a half, ED has chosen not to exercise that authority.

With the Fiscal Year 2021 appropriations process ramping up and the unprecedented financial situation we find ourselves in right now, COHEAO hopes to convince Members of Congress to require ED to support schools in their servicing obligation and provide a replacement for the ACA.

In this continued fight we hope you can contact legislators and staff who represent your state on the Appropriations Committee. Below are links to a template containing language for outreach to House and Senate offices and a spreadsheet containing a directory of Congressional appropriators and their relevant staff.

If you have any questions or need any further information, please contact our Associate Executive Director Jared Solomon at jsolomon@bosepublicaffairs.com or 610-772-0630.

Stay safe and healthy.
