Great news! Representatives Louise Slaughter (D-NY) and John Duncan (R-TN) yesterday released a bipartisan “dear colleague” letter in support of extending the Perkins Loan Program for two years through the upcoming FY18 omnibus appropriations spending bill. We need your help in getting as many Members of Congress to sign this letter as possible!
As a result of the determined advocacy efforts and communications from COHEAO members, Reps. Slaughter and Duncan are writing to House leadership in a bipartisan call to support extending Perkins for two years through the appropriations process. Specifically, the letter is addressed to Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), House Education & Workforce Committee Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Ranking Member Bobby Scott (D-VA) as well as House Appropriations Committee leaders Tom Cole (R-KS) and Rosa DeLauro (D-CT.)
The next step, is to get as many other Members of Congress to sign the letter as soon as possible. The offices of Reps. Slaughter and Duncan would like to keep the letter open until this Friday, March 9, 2018. Please reach out to your representatives in the House, especially if they are on the Education & Workforce Committee or Appropriations Committee.
