On October 24, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will host a field hearing on debt collection in Seattle, Washington at 10 a.m. PST.  The event will be held at the Seattle Public Library and will also be available via webcast at www.consumerfinance.gov/blog.

For COHEAO members located near the Seattle area, this event is open to the public and requires an RSVP to be sent to cfpb.events@cfpb.gov with your full name and your organizational affiliation.  The Seattle Public Library is located at 1000 4th Ave, Seattle, WA.

The field hearing will feature remarks from CFPB Director Richard Cordray as well as testimony from industry representatives and consumer groups.  Cordray’s involvement in the event has led to some speculation that a major announcement from the Bureau related to the debt collection marketplace, but at this point, it is pure speculation.

COHEAO will be watching the event online and will report on any breaking developments via a COHEAO Spark.  Absent any breaking news, we will provide a summary and overview of the hearing in this week’s edition of The Torch.
