COHEAO Members and Perkins Loan Advocates,
As there have been several developments since our June 16 teleconference, we wanted to provide you with an update. Please find attached a special COHEAO Spark on HEA reauthorization and the future of the Perkins Loan Program. 7.3.14 Spark–HEA and Perkins Advocates
As you will see in the summary, HEA reauthorization remains unexpected this year, but there is going to be a considerable amount of activity to set the stage for the next Congress. Also, regardless of what happens with HEA, the October 1, 2015 Perkins Loan sunset date continues to loom.
Therefore, it is critically important that Perkins Loan advocates remain informed and engaged on the politics and policy of the future of the program. To that end, we highly recommend that all Perkins Loan advocates attend the COHEAO Mid-Year Conference. The discount rate for registration fees and hotel accommodations expires on Friday, July 11.
In addition to insights from COHEAO President Maria Livolsi and Executive Director Harrison Wadsworth on the situation in Washington, our Perkins Loan Task Force meeting at the conference will help direct COHEAO’s long-term policy goals for Perkins and our advocacy efforts in the near, medium, and long-term. Additional information on the COHEAO Mid-Year Conference is available online: https://www.coheao.com/conference-events/upcoming-events/upcoming-conferences/
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thanks again for your support of COHEAO and the Perkins Loan Program. We hope you all have a safe and happy Independence Day.
Best Wishes,
Wes Wes Huffman Associate Director COHEAO 202.289.3910 whuffman@wpllc.net
